Alyssa George was a Bazelon Fellow from 2016 – 2018. She received her JD from Georgetown Law Center and BA from Amherst College, majoring in Psychology and Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought (LJST).

Georgetown Law Center’s focus on public interest law helped Alyssa to prepare for the fellowship through internships, externships, and clinics. Georgetown Law provided the solid base that led to her success at the Bazelon Center.

Alyssa’s interest in the Bazelon Fellowship grew from her desire to explore systematic litigation, conduct policy research, learn more about disability law, and defend civil rights.

During her time as a fellow, Alyssa worked on several cases, including MJ v. District of Columbia. Alyssa contributed to many strategic and practical decisions, including meeting with potential clients, analyzing legal data and reports, meeting with public officials and experts, and developing a public relations strategy.

Alyssa believes that anyone who is interested in civil rights advocacy would be well served by applying for the Bazelon Fellowship. The Fellowship gave her unique opportunities to participate in systematic litigation at an organization that pioneers legal expertise in the field of disability rights. Personally, Alyssa valued the connections she made with community members and clients.
