Eunice Shriver’s Legacy is a Changed World for Millions
August 11, 2009 – The Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law joins with the community of disability advocates in mourning the loss of one of its longtime leaders, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. “Ms Shriver played a remarkable role for many years in changing the way the world responds to people with intellectual disabilities,” said Robert Bernstein, Ph.D., the center’s executive director.
“Although she is perhaps best known for founding the Special Olympics,” Dr. Bernstein added, “Ms Shriver also earned our appreciation for helping to create the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and for serving as the inspiration for health care and support organizations that today assist and empower people with disabilities across the country.”
