The National Academies of Science estimates that roughly one in five children in America experiences some form of diagnosable mental, emotional or behavioral disorder. The Bazelon Center works to protect, promote and advance the rights of children with mental or emotional disorders.

Updated! Moving On: Federal Programs to Assist Transition-Age Youth with Serious Mental Health Conditions
Myriad federal programs can address the wide range of needs of youth with serious mental health conditions who are transitioning into adulthood. Updated in November 2008, Moving On is a collection of fact sheets on 56 of these programs, run by 20 or more different agencies in nine departments of the federal government.

Community Mental Health Services Ordered for Thousands of California Foster Children

aSeptember 22, 2008--The federal court ordered parties in the lawsuit known as Katie A. v. Bonta to meet promptly and report back to the court by October 29 on how wraparound services can be covered by Medi-Cal and properly billed—thereby ensuring that mental health care providers will be reimbursed for delivering these critical services, to children in foster care.
