Andrew Christy was a Bazelon Fellow from 2014 – 2016. He received his JD from Georgetown Law Center and BA from the University of Delaware with majors in Women’s Studies and Political Science.

Georgetown Law Center offered substantial support in Andrew’s pursuit of a public interest career, both in terms of available opportunities and financial assistance. This allowed Andrew to focus on public interest projects throughout law school so that he was well prepared for a future in civil rights.

Andrew’s interest in the Bazelon Center stemmed from his passion for civil rights litigation and his interest in helping others. As a Bazelon Fellow, one accomplishment that stands out for Andrew was when Bazelon defended a woman who was sued for defamation by a residential treatment facility. In seeking to bring justice to the defendant, Andrew saw this case as an interesting intersection of disability rights and free speech.

As for anyone interested in the Bazelon Fellowship, Andrew believes that if you are passionate about using your skills as a lawyer to make a difference in the lives of others, then definitely apply!

Andrew is currently employed by the ACLU of Pennsylvania.
