Director of Annual Giving
The Judge David L. Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, located
in Washington, D.C. (www.bazelon.org) is looking for an enthusiastic
and dedicated fundraising professional to join our team.
Founded in 1973, the Bazelon Center is the nation's leading nonprofit
organization dedicated to the legal rights of adults and children
with mental health-related disabilities. The field of mental health
has undergone enormous change in the past three decades, and groundbreaking
judicial decisions and policy successes achieved by the Bazelon Center
have set the stage for action on critical issues of the future. Because
the general public is at last coming to understand the important
role that mental health plays in daily life, the door has now opened
for our work to garner the support it needs and deserves.
We are looking for someone who not only cares about mental health
issues but who also understands and can engage the "mind" of
the public audience—potential donors on whose support we depend.
This person also needs to act as a liaison between the public, our
donors and the other members of our development and communications
teams, our executive director and our board to build upon current
annual-giving activities, including mail solicitation, corporate
outreach, special gifts and special events. The candidate will also
be responsible for donor stewardship and will assist in developing
an online giving strategy. He or she should be flexible, work well
under pressure and be able to meet tight deadlines while handling
multiple assignments.
Position Qualifications: a broad knowledge of the principles of
fundraising; three to five years of nonprofit fundraising experience
or a related educational background; excellent writing and editing
skills; and tested problem-solving, research and analytical capabilities.
A working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or another relational
database is preferred. The candidate must show a strong desire to
achieve program and professional growth and possess a commitment
to our mental health rights advocacy mission. A Bachelor’s
degree is preferred.
Interested candidates should send a resume, cover letter and salary
requirements to: Human Resources, Bazelon Center, 1101 15th Street,
NW, Suite 1212, Washington, DC 20005. Fax: 202.233.0409 or email
search2@bazelon.org. NO CALLS.
The Bazelon Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We offer a
competitive salary based on experience and have a generous benefits
package.
