Sophie Stern > Policy Analyst and Development Associate

Photo of Sophie SternSophie Stern joined the Bazelon Center in June 2011 as a policy analyst and development associate after completing an internship with Bazelon’s policy team.  As a member of the policy team, Sophie conducts strategic planning and systems analyses for Bazelon’s Performance Improvement Projects (PIP).  She also researches and analyzes a variety of mental health topics such as psychotropic drug use in children; children’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI); mental health financing; and health reform.  As a member of the development team, Sophie writes proposals to foundations and government agencies to request general support and program-specific funding and guides preparation of final reports. In addition to her work at Bazelon, Sophie volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in DC and mentors children who are in foster care because of neglect or abuse.

Sophie graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in public health from the School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS) at the George Washington University, where she is also pursuing her Master's of Public Health (MPH) in health policy.  She will complete her graduate studies in the summer of 2012.
